You actually do know who you are and what it is you should work on (it’s in your genes). You have tackled those weak points and done some work on them. However, at some point in time you notice that they become stronger again, so for me it was about time to zoom in on those once again and work on them. Time for some coaching. Not just any coaching, but talking to someone you can trust, someone who can listen, someone who helps you paint the picture. Not only your own picture, but also that of your environment. Someone who helps you understand that picture and make it better. Because of Dirk Versées’ advice and my conversations with him, I can now be a better version of myself.

My working environment was very unpleasant: the atmosphere, the hours, appreciation, etc, left much to be desired. I was having doubts about resigning: if I went somewhere else, wouldn’t I experience some other problems? It was clear I was out of place in my job at the time, but where would I feel like I belonged? For me, the programme was very agreeable. I found it interesting to press pause and think about myself for a couple of days. It was lovely to work with a small group of people and other group members’ insights sometimes turned out to be valuable contributions. Some of the exercises guided by the coach were challenging. For example, I realised I was not as in tune with my values as I thought. Coaching in group made me freshen up my own values and made me more aware again of the things I find important, also within a company. Through this, I knew more what to look out for in my search for a new job and at the time, it gave me the courage to resign. After a short transition to a temporary employer, I have – I believe – found a wonderful job, where I will start very soon!

As inexperienced and youngest participant I soft-heartedly joined something I could not capture completely. Thanks to Dirk’s informal approach, the afternoon turned into a safe platform where you got a clear perspective on your own working situation and your relation to your colleagues and directors, through specific questions and the help of other participants. Very instructive, after only one afternoon! It is still hard to capture, but the programme gives you insights and tools to concretely move forward in a working situation that is stuck or to tackle the insecurity you experience when taking charge.

In the daily rush of work and life, you suddenly ask yourself: what in the name of God am I doing? Is this what I want? Why do things take more energy from me than they give me? Do I dare to make the choices to do the things that are worth it for me? Through once more becoming aware of your own system, you learn to reset your inner compass. Dirk approaches this in a very informal way and gives you the time and space to look for and discover yourself.

The group session ‘Systemic navigation in organisations’ blew me away. I got to know ‘constellations’: position the other coachees in the room in a way that they physically represent the relations within your team. I could help others find an answer to the question they were struggling with, simply by standing where they put me. I myself did not have a specific question… I thought. Dirk asked me the right questions, until I could see very sharply, before my own eyes, what I was struggling with. I, on my turn, used the other coachees to represent my environment, and suddenly I saw very clearly how simple it was. By remembering this constellation at work, my working environment suddenly seems wonderfully simple. Thank you, Hilde and Dirk!

As the new head of department of the public works service at a civil administration, I needed extra support to fulfil my role as a leader. During several sessions, Dirk was able to teach me different techniques relating to the development of management skills. Apart from advice, coaching included an opportunity to reflect, contemplate and develop myself. In a very practical and concrete way, Dirk offered me tools to fulfil my role within the organisation. The sessions were pleasant and the training was an added value in practising my new job. I also feel more comfortable in my role as a leader within the organisation thanks to the coaching programme.

Coaching has to be used in conjunction with developing competences in leadership, management, teamwork… and therefore personal engagement with staff is vital. After a 15 year career in the building industry, mainly as a Project Manager, I was given the opportunity to take on a new challenging role as Head of Department.
